Teach Like a Champion
Technique #14
Board = Paper
“I” Technique

“Students often have to learn how to be students as much as they need to learn content and skills.”

KEY IDEA:  Model for students how to track the information they need to retain from your lessons; ensure that they have an exact copy of what they need.

Teach students how to take notes:

  1. Make the projection of the image (note paper, graphic organizer, worksheet, etc.) identical to item students are working on.
  2. As you are working on the item and filling it out together state, “Make your paper look like mine.”
  3. As students get older the amount of direction should lesson and the amount of note taking they exercise discretion over increases.
