“Students often have to learn how to be students as much as they need to learn content and skills.”
KEY IDEA: Model for students how to track the information they need to retain from your lessons; ensure that they have an exact copy of what they need.
Teach students how to take notes:
- Make the projection of the image (note paper, graphic organizer, worksheet, etc.) identical to item students are working on.
- As you are working on the item and filling it out together state, “Make your paper look like mine.”
- As students get older the amount of direction should lesson and the amount of note taking they exercise discretion over increases.
